What Works

Theron returns as Andy, now grappling with her mortality, and she’s just as fierce and magnetic. The core group—Nile, Joe, Nicky, Booker, and Quỳnh—still has undeniable chemistry, and their banter remains one of the film’s strong suits.

One standout scene—a corridor battle that travels through Andy’s memories—is visually stunning and creatively shot. It’s a reminder of how good this franchise can be when it leans into its high-concept strengths.

Introducing Discord, the first immortal (played by Uma Thurman), adds intrigue to the universe. While her backstory is thin, her presence suggests bigger things—especially paired with Henry Golding as a new ally shrouded in mystery.

What Doesn’t Work

The action feels inconsistent—some sequences hit hard, others feel overly choreographed and flat. Compared to the fluid, brutal efficiency of the first film, this one struggles to keep momentum.

Instead of delivering a solid, self-contained narrative, The Old Guard 2 feels more like a bridge to a third film that isn’t confirmed yet. Major plot threads are introduced and then… paused. The cliffhanger ending, while bold, is more frustrating than thrilling.

One of the first film’s major strengths was its queer representation—especially the romance between Joe and Nicky. Sadly, those moments are reduced to the background here. Even Andy and Quỳnh’s emotionally loaded dynamic is barely explored. It feels like the film stepped back from what made it groundbreaking.

Should You Watch It?

Yes— if you’re invested in the characters, the world, and you want to see where this saga might go. The performances are strong, and there are flashes of brilliance.
But temper your expectations. This isn’t the satisfying sequel it could’ve been. Instead, it’s a visually cool, narratively uneven chapter that seems to be holding its breath for a third film.

Final Verdict: 2.5/5

A stylish but incomplete sequel. It’s great to see the immortals again, but this chapter leaves too many threads dangling to truly satisfy.
